It's about that time of the year where the Seaside town of Blackpool is illuminated with lights along 6 miles of the Sea front. This year the lights are being switched on by Keith Lemon!

    The Illuminations started with a display of 8 arc lamps back in 1879.

    The event was so innovative it even preceded Thomas Edison's patent of the humble electric light bulb, which didn't arrive until the following year.

    In 1879 the Illuminations were described as Artificial Sunshine and 100,000 people came to see this first great light show.

    The equipment weighs more than 711,000 kilograms, which is the equivalent to 350 Blackpool Trams.

    There are over a million lamps in the display.

    Cable and wiring in the display stretches more than 200 miles.

    The Illuminations cost more than £2.2 million to stage.

    The equipment itself is worth about £10 million.

    The army of visitors will spend more than £275 million whilst visiting the resort during the lights.

    Celebrities that have switched on the lights include Robbie Williams, Ronan Keating, Ken Dodd, Bee Gees, Shirley Bassey, Joanna Lumley, Frank Bruno and Kermit the Frog, amongst many others...

You're right.  Didn't they have to travel there using one tank of petrol from Land's End or something like that.  They weren't even sure they were going to make it if I recall.

They are so very different to each other but they somehow make a fantastic team.

Yes, they had to use one tank of petrol to get there. They are great indeed and the show is amazing.
