  • I thought i would make a section for Bingo News and Gossip

I found this story and wanted everyone to read it, very fascinating, do take a moment to read it..

For many, loss of eyesight would be too overwhelming but for one tough American cookie, she has not allowed her disability to get in the way of her playing her favourite game, bingo!

Mrs Archer and her daughter Peggy were a regular team and played together often. Sometimes tackling many cards at one time. However, almost 19 years ago, Mrs. Archer suffered a stroke eventually leading to the loss of her eyesight. Bill, her son was worried she would be unable to continue playing her favourite game which gave her so much pleasure. As her sight got worse, Mrs Archer found that she could, with help, memorise the numbers on a couple of bingo cards, and continued to play like this effectively.

Bill arrived for a regular visit at his mothers nursing home recently to discover she was in the middle of a game and he noticed she was covering up the wrong numbers. She eventually called “bingo” after which Bill quietly told his mother she hadn’t won at all but the call was deemed correct and his mother explained; “Oh dear, I forgot to turn it over.” She was in fact playing the correct numbers on the wrong side of the card.

There are numerous clubs out there who help their players if by making the tickets larger or the text bolder. There are also many deaf players who can still enjoy the game thanks to most modern clubs having installed hearing loops. But Mrs Archer has overcome her obstacle alone and we are always pleased to hear of bingo players overcoming their problems so they can continue playing their favourite game.

  • 830,000 stolen from Bingo

That's one way to make sure you always win at bingo -- just steal all the proceeds. We look at our marker-stained, moneyless hands and can't help feeling like total idiots on this one.

Spiros Moshopoulos was running bingo games at Bingo 82 in Jackson Heights with the help of Daniella Radelescu and Tommy Skiada. They said proceeds were going to charities, and then kept the money for themselves.

Not content with the takings from that venture, they also set up side-betting on individual numbers, kind of like the Jackson Heights bingo hall version of roulette for people who aren't satisfied by the adrenaline rush of regular bingo. All things said and done, they made off with $830,000 over the course of a few years. That's a lot of free turkeys.

Moshopoulos, Skiada and Radelescu, who used illegally obtained bingo licenses and owe the state thousands in fees, each face up to 15 years in jail, but the good news is, they probably have an idea of how to make some money while they're locked up.

  • There are certain bingo halls in certain neighborhoods in San Antonio where you might not get your winnings when you BINGO.  And, it's best not to ask where your money is if this happens or it might be the last BINGO you ever win.

  • Moon Bingo is a popular online bingo club but the way they are offering the popular and expensive IPod Nano as prizes, they seem to have become a large electronic supermarket than a bingo club. The No Deposit Bingo site has been exciting bingo players in recent weeks with these great prizes but sadly they will soon be coming to an end so you need to hurry to grab yours.

If you fancy winning one of these ipods then you will have to hurry, as Moon Bingo will soon be ending their promotion.

These little gadgets are great fun, I know because I have one and I do not leave home without it. If you are a music lover then you will love these prizes but I have to say they are expensive and thank god for Bingo clubs giving these great prizes away.

If you do win one then it would make a great early Christmas present or you may want to keep it for yourself.

As well as these great prizes, Moon bingo also offer you 300% deposit bonus on your first deposit which is great news if you only want to deposit £10.

  • Online Bingo is attracting the younger.. read on

It wasn’t that long ago that bingo was associated with a blue rinse brigade, women in hair nets, copious cups of tea and the occasional sherry! Bingo certainly wasn’t seen as something a younger crowd would dabble in. But oh! How the times have changed as bingo halls online (and land based) have, over the years seen the average age of bingo fans plummeting.

It’s clear with the TV advertising and ubiquitous marketing that Bingo has now got a much younger more stylish image. A number of the bingo clubs have invested quite significant sums in a bid to give their clubs an image that appeals to a younger fresher audience. In terms of the land based halls the clubs themselves are being updated with more money being spent on the food and drink offering. Plus, more money has been spent on technology bringing in younger people.

In times of old, players would mark their tickets off with something like a marker pen. However the introduction of hand-held units at clubs replacing this more traditional method have made the game more attractive to younger players.

The company secretary of the Bingo Association, Cherry Hosking says bingo is now attracting a wider audience from a broader demographic, and is no longer perceived as a game reserved for the olds. She also says that online bingo has successfully married the social element of the game with the game playing itself, and this is a winning feature as socializing is very important to bingo players. She went on to comment; “online bingo is also a more socially acceptable game despite the gambling element, because of this.”

  • This is news i dream about.. gosh.. i hope someday to win the progressive at a Bingo Site!!!

A lucky player at Mecca Bingo has just won a staggering £53,000 after bagging the progressive jackpot on the “Jungle Jackpot” slots game.

Dudderbear spun 5 tigers in winning the progressive jackpot. The prize sum depends on the sum wagered by the player. In this case Dudderbear did everything right.

The winnings came as a BIG surprise to the mother of two from Leeds. She has been playing at Mecca Bingo for almost a year, opening an account after she picked up a flyer in her local bingo hall.

Of her win she said “When I saw my win come up on the computer screen my jaw dropped! I ran to tell my mother but she didn’t believe me! Finally, she got her head round it and while I jumped up and down in the living room, my mum was my calming influence as she couldn’t join me with her broken leg”

So far, Dudderbear said she doesn’t have any plans on how she will spend her winnings but one thing she knows for sure, her winnings are definitely going into buying her a new car.

  • Its Hammer time for this Bingo hall

HOUSTON - Investigators say a man was shot by a security guard after he allegedly smashed the entrance door to a northwest Harris County bingo hall.

Harris County Precinct 4 deputy constables say a man smashed the window of a beer and wine store in the shopping center on FM 1960 near Humble-Westfield Road before he tried to enter the bingo hall at approximately 9:45 p.m. Sunday.

The security guard inside the bingo hall asked the man with the hammer what he wanted, but investigators say he continued to use the hammer on the door.

Because he was concerned for his safety and that of the bingo hall customers, investigators say the security guard fired a gunshot toward the man with the hammer.

The bullet only grazed the potential intruder's skin and he was treated for his injury at the shopping center. No one else was hurt in the incident.

Investigators have not determined if the man with the hammer was a robbery suspect. He may be charged with vandalism.

  • UNITED KINGDOM- A woman has continued to play bingo despite losing her sight after a stroke. The woman's sight slowly began to disappear, but not before the die-hard bingo player memorised all the positions of the numbers on the cards.

A woman who recently lost her sight is continuing to play bingo. Her son first noticed her sight problem one night when visiting her while she was playing a bingo game. A news agent described the scenario as follows: "On the next card he noticed she was covering up the wrong numbers. He didn't say anything to begin with and only did at the same moment she called bingo. He thought it was an embarrassing mistake until the call was deemed to be correct and his mother explained; 'Oh, I forgot to turn it over. I was playing the card on the other side.'

It is a widely known fact that many bingo halls and clubs go the extra mile to accommodate their players. An example of this is when a woman at a bingo hall in Loughborough had her games enlarged to be A4 size so she could still follow the game.

A news agent said that bingo clubs' willingness to provide support for a wide range of disabled players is a hallmark of the industry. It is hoped that bingo halls and clubs will continue these efforts and eventually appeal to a wider group of people with disabilities but who would love to play the enjoyable pastime.

A recent article in the Forres Gazette claimed that the Internet has revolutionised the way bingo is played. Hopefully the online version will also provide a few modifications for visually impaired players, like an option to able to view a full screen-sized ticket.

  • Expert 'Surprised By Time Spent Playing Bingo'

Research shows 26 days a year are lost to the numbers game.

One online gambling expert has declared himself surprised by a study that suggests bingo players spend an average of 12 hours a week on the game.

Lorien Pilling, head of research at Global Betting and Gaming Consultants, said he expected the figure to be significantly higher.

He noted the total of 624 hours, or 26 days, each year seemed to be quite small compared with some cases he has experienced.

"The point of online bingo is that it's quite a social game. You spend quite a bit of time chatting with your colleagues and friends in the various chat rooms," Mr Pilling explained.

Indeed, he went on to point out the social scene has become as important and time-consuming as the actual game, with online features replacing the interaction previously carried out in bingo halls.
