  • Hiya LBB'ers,

There has been all sorts of news lately on a 66 year old woman who collapsed in a bingo hall and died when taken to the hospital. It happened at  Gala Bingo and created quite a stir among the customers.

Due to policy of the club under no circumstances should the game be interrupted. The bingo caller following the rules continued to call numbers as the woman laid on the floor unconscious.

Some players were so upset that they walked out and others had plenty to say, claiming that the hall acted in a unsympathetic manner.

The irony of it all is the daughter of the mother who was at the bingo hall with her later made a statement thanking the staff for their help and calling in the paramedics without a word of resentment.

Do you think the bingo hall was wrong and if it was your mom would you be as understanding as this daughter was?

  • I would not be understanding. It's human nature to acknowledge someone who collapses. Even if I was told to continue on as a caller, there's no way that I could. My reaction would be one of horror and in this case bingo no longer exists. That's a terrible rule to force employees to adhere to. Is it possible that it was taken out of context? Possibly the caller didn't think that this type of exceptional situation would not apply?

    Where was this lips?

  • It's Coatbridge, Lanarkshire in Scotland. I have to agree i think its morally wrong. To have a clear conscious policy or not i would have to at least delay the game.

  • This is absurd! You can't keep on calling the numbers while somebody lies on the floor dying! Come on!

  • That is shameful imho. Her daughter was a better person than i would be. I would be a tyrant if that was my mother lying near death and he is calling N 44  4-4 under the N. Only number i want called is 911. Where is the humanity in all this??

  • that was very sad in deed :(

i agree i think they should have announced on the mic we are postponing this game until due course, but sorry to the family of this woman for their loss.

  • Form the perspective of myself in similar situation, i think Gala bingo would be the last thing on my mind frankly.

As for the Gala bingo, by reading lips post i figure ppl reacted very negatively which i would do the same if were present so im wondering what the club gained by being strict to their rules

  • That is one of the most callous, shameful things I have ever heard! I hope they have the sense to change that policy going forward to ensure such pitiful behavior is never ever repeated! Thanks for bringing that to us lips.
