  • Hiya Bingo Players,

I may not remember the first time I ever walked into a bingo hall but I do remember the first time I won a coverall. I needed one number for $500. It seemed before I could barely get the number out of my mouth, when the caller announced my number.

I didn’t go all that often but when I did it was a people watchers delight. The trinkets and toys and good luck charms some of these players had would take up half the table! It would be the same group sitting at the same tables every time I went.

I was only 18 or 19 at the time and would go with my mom. I remember a woman sitting at the table and she was smoking. Something about the way she held her cigarette made me want one! Blame it on her because I went right after that and bought myself a pack of Marlboros!

There was woman in particular that had at least 100 cards to watch. This is the amazing part. Not once did she dab nor put a chip on her cards. I remember nudging my mom and saying…”what is wrong with that woman, she bought all those cards and isnt playing”! Turns out she did bingo and more than once! Til this day I don’t know how she watched her cards and knew what she had without ever putting a chip or dabbing her numbers!

Do you remember your first bingo hall experience or win?

  • I grew up with a bingo family, I was in halls all the time.  I remember playing at the local church ones as a kid, or at least sitting at the table with my mom and dad, eating nachos, etc. Then when I was 12, I would go regularly with them.  I could play, I just couldn't yell bingo.  So I would have as many or more cards as them, and when I got one away I would tell them so they could keep an eye on the numbers.  My mom passed away 2 years ago, and 2 days after getting out of the hospital after her brain surgery, my SIL took her to play BINGO!! LOL.  It was 'our' thing to do together, she would get so excited every time no matter how often she played.  So I guess I don't have one memory, or remember the first time, but bingo is a very 'childhood homey' thing for me.

  • Hi Tood,

That is a very beautiful story. Memories of family and good times are something that can never be taken away from us. Bingo is more than just going to hit a bingo. It brings friends, family and neighbors together. Its taking time out in our hectic lives and just stop and smell the roses and kick back with those we enjoy being with.
