  • News in about a gruesome discovery in the Tsavo game reserve in Kenya.

Eleven adult elephants and one infant calf were brutally slaughtered by poachers to feed the demand for ivory in Asian countries.

"It is unimaginable, a heinous, heinous crime," said Paul Udoto, spokesman for the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS). "We have not seen such an incident in recent memory, it's the worst single loss that we have on record, and our records go back almost 30 years."

The elephant family was gunned down with automatic rifles before their tusks were hacked out with machetes, while the calf is believed to have been crushed by its mother as she fell after being shot.

Big Heart Bingo supports WWF and Traffic as they battle to get the trade in ivory banned.

So when you play games on line, make sure you stand with them in the world's charity bingo revolution.

Together we can make a difference.

  • I wonder if this will ever stop. Several organisations have been putting a lot of effort into preventing such things for several years now.

  • I can't see it ever stopping.  :(

As long as people buy ivory, there will always be a demand.    It's absolutely sickening what some people will do to make money.  Good to hear that bingo sites have their hearts in the right place.

  • It's sad and devastating; I know I shouldn't be pessimistic but I can't see that it will ever stop.

  • Maybe if enough countries around the world would holler it could put a stop to Asian countries having a demand for the ivory. Such big beautiful creatures wiped out for a bit of ivory. It really sickens me.

  • I saw the title of this thread and avoided it because I was afraid of what I'd read. Just as I thought, it's awful but it's so nice to see a bingo site giving back and trying to stop this. To kill such a beautiful giant for a piece of ivory is senseless.  Money will make people do some crazy things.

  • Animal Rights are a great cause and I'd support any bingo site that wants to put a stop to senseless violence.

  • I almost didnt click.

If God came on high and said 'youve made art and crafts and beautiful things; should the species continue?', id be all 'nope, we effed it all up, let the bugs have their chance'.

    Love that! LOL

  • Ahhhh its a sad, sad situation and if you go on crusade to help one group of animals in the wild or domesticated it's like springing a leak and there is no end to the cruelty.

What is the answer? Is there really an answer to all the abuse animals face? I know we have to start somewhere but sometimes it just seems like a never ending battle. The real beast in the chain of life are the humans.

I think where it really has to start is educating people and to be taught at a very young age that any form of cruelty is a massive disgrace and to share this planet with all living creatures with respect.

    I know i'm a dreamer.......
