  • Hi LBB'ers,

I wanted to hear your thoughts on a story I came across. A bingo session was in progress at a Mecca Bingo club and a man had a heart attack. There happened to be two nurses playing bingo who ran over to try to help him until the ambulance arrived. He had fallen under the table and the bingo caller just carried on with the game.

Mecca Bingo stands behind this because they claim it's their procedure to avoid chaos. What do you think? I can't even imagine being a player that would keep dabbing my numbers while a man is in the throws of a heart attack. To top it off, the nurses say his heart stopped twice.

I think this is absolutely 100% ridiculous!

  • I totally agree Froggy it is ridiculous.  What if the poor man had died - would they stand behind their decision then?  Outrageous.

  • This is wrong, a man's life is way more important than anything. Avoid chaos? I'm pretty sure there would have been no chaos at all if they stopped the session.

  • I was shocked when I heard about this. It seems like it would be much more chaotic to have a game going on while someone is lying on the floor having a heart attack. Not cool at all!

  • There is time for business and a time to be humane and for Mecca Bingo to have this philosophy is wrong in my book! For God's sake the man's heart stopped twice and the game went on? I think the players in the bingo hall are just as guilty because they should of piped up and said something too.

  • It seems that it's not only Mecca Bingo but Gala Bingo has the same procedure.

A game continued on Wednesday night after a woman became ill during the game, was being treated and was taken to the hospital where she later passed away.

The spokeswoman for Gala Bingo said: "Our thoughts are with the family at this time.

"Our initial approach in such instances is to create as calm an environment as possible - to reduce the stress for the customer in question, their friends and family and our qualified first-aider, until the emergency services arrive.

"In this case it was felt that the best way of dealing with this particular incident was to continue with the table-top bingo. However, we delayed the main-stage bingo until the customer had been taken to hospital.

"Our staff are trained to deal with situations like this and carried out all the correct procedures until the paramedics arrived."

  • I have seen this happen 3 times in all my casino visits over the years.  Twice was at a blackjack table.  I was playing and in both instances all the tables around kept playing while the the person was worked on and they were waiting for the ambulance.

The other time was in a bingo hall.  A lady in front of me passed out at the table.  Security was called and they got her in a wheelchair and waited for the ambulance.  All the while bingo numbers were being called and the games went on.

It must be the same all over even though it is pretty heartless.  But I guess these places feel it is best to keep on going rather than stop the games.

  • From a humane point of view it really seems awful to do. But if the reason is to keep the crowd calm and not cause further pandemonium i guess i get it to a degree. I just can't help though to feel if that was my loved one on the floor and the show must go on mentality took place, i would be upset.

  • is funny how money can show people true colors,  Really people should have shouted stop the game and gave the attention to the man.  Some people just wanna mind there own business.
