  • Robbie who is just 5 years old, of Lower Stratton, suffers from diplegia cerebral palsy. It affects  the muscles in his legs and he has spent most of his life in a wheelchair.

A £40,000 operation in America could allow him to walk for the first time. There has been six months of fundraising, and only  £8,500 has been raised.

There is not much time left for Robbie. The operation is most likely to succeed if Robbie has the operation before he turns six. Robbie’s sixth birthday is in just six months.

Robbie’s mum, Kelly said: “It’s going to take quite a while. The younger he has it the more effective it is, we really want to do it as soon as possible.

“As soon as we have got it we will do it,” she said.

“Robbie is still really enthusiastic. He is starting to understand a lot more. When people say to him ‘where are you going?’ he says ‘I’m going to America with my mum and dad and it is going to me let me walk’,” said Kelly.

“It’s really nice that he is understanding. He’s just excited.”

Several businesses and organisations have come forward and helped the family raise the money and Kelly says she wants to thank everyone who has helped and made donations.

Raffle and bingo nights are being planned, as well as a cake sale in the next few weeks.

Good luck to Robbie and his family. Let's hope through the bingo charities he will be walking this time next year.

  • I'm sure that the money will be raised, it would be a huge shame to let this kid suffer on our watch.

  • Thanks Lips for the story.  I did a bit of research and found a website where people can donate.

This is the website here - http://www.ourwishingwell.com/webpages/view/7882 if anyone is interested.
