  • Hiya LBB's

I just read an interesting article about Guam trying to pass legislation to legalize Bingo beyond playing in Catholic Churches exclusively. There was recently a demonstration including the Catholic archdioceses who are strongly opposed to it.

Do you feel the Catholic Church should have exclusive rights to bingo or should it become legal for non-profit organizations as well?

  • I saw the title of this thread and instantly became nervous. Bingo is for everyone and no one should have exclusive rights no matter who they are. It's very interesting that they would have exclusive rights in Guam. I just can't get over it. The answer is just NO WAY!

  • Is there a saint for Bingo?

I'm Baptist so by nature don't approve of the Catholic Church trying to monopolize on my Bingo game or anyone else's.  I'm all for them playing as much bingo as they can, but don't think it's for Catholics only.

What does the Pope have to say about this, I wonder.

  • There should definitely be a saint for bingo chilly!

  • I agree with Froggy, why should they have exclusive rights? Did they invent the game? Don't think so.

  • Being "technically" Catholic, I feel like I can say this.... This is the sort of thing that irritates me. There is a superiority complex that they need to get over. Because you are not Catholic doesn't mean you are damned and it for damn sure doesn't mean you can't play bingo.

  • Everyone should be able to play bingo and no one should have a monopoly over it. It just sucks. So I'm against it.

I totally agree Froggy!I was raise Catholic, went to Catholic school and was married in the church ( first time ;) ) The older I get the more doubt and questions I have.

Leave bingo alone and stick to religion.

  • Correct me, but how can a Catholic if anyone be against bingo for anyone BUT Catholics, being bingo IS technically gambling; shouldn't Catholics be the ones if anyone who CAN'T play bingo?

  • I don't know for sure but I think gambling and drinking and dancing are "features" of the Catholic church.  But that may be my biased Baptist upbringing.

  • *-* OMG!! Arn't the catholic churches rich enough as is without taking over our bingo'z..if u don't think so just look at  there churches, then look at the Protestants or Christians churches..they have solid gold statues, and you can't find not 1 Protestant church on this earth that has a vault to hold its belongings safe...and as far as i'm concerned I personnaly don't think that all the money will go to charities, because if it was just for that,  they would not try to get the exclusivitie, they no there is alot of money from this...and where in the world would did they get this idiot idea from...I am religous and i love God, i'm Protestant but i have been many a times to catholic ceramonies,(good exercise in catholic churches too..sit/stand/kneal/sit./stand/kneal) and i  have many of the same beliefs as them, but hey when they start to try and mess with my bingo....OMG *-* they're startin 2 freak me out..... >:(

  • I gotta add that I am thankful to the Catholic Church here in town.  They host "St. Louis Day" every year in the park, and have a real fun little bingo game going on the whole time.  for me it's the highlight of the day, 50 cents a slider card.  Fun stuff!

And I never hear them trying to claim the exclusive right to bingo.

  • I couldn't agree more with everyone's replies. It is called "GREED". Its ok to line the pockets of the Catholic Church but not for anyone else or God forbid line the parishioners pockets!
