  • Hi Bingo Buddies,

I got to thinking about the troll doll and how it came about as a lucky charm, especially for bingo players. I did a little research and here is what i came up with....

    trolls-1.jpg

The creator of the troll doll is Thomas Dam. He was a Danish woodcutter and carved a little doll out of wood to give to his daughter for Christmas's in the early 60's, because he was too poor to buy a present. He told her it would bring her good luck and was her lucky charm. When the town local children saw the doll they wanted one too. Thomas started to sell the "Dam Dolls" as they were originally called.

The Dam doll was made with real sheep hair and the eyes were made of glass. It gained popularity quickly and soon America and North America were making them and calling them "Trolls".

Thomas Dam did not get copyright unfortunately. It would not be til 2003 that this adorable doll would give Thomas the copyright and he became the soul manufacturer.

And there ya have it.........the history of the troll  ;)

  • I remember these when I was a kid (I'm going back a lot of years now!) and never wanted one but I was eventually given a little troll on a key ring.

Thanks for the history of the Troll Lips - I had no idea.

  • Thanks lips! I used to love troll dolls as a kid too. They went through a period of popularity. We all had them on our desks at school.

  • I have two, I think they are labeled wishniks.  I bought them about 2 years ago.  Chillymellow loves her toys!

(don't snicker cuz no...not that kind of toys)

  • Never had any of troll dolls...instead I used to draw and cut the paper dolls and their clothes...heh!

I love Histories behind almost everything and thanks so much for this one,Lips.
