  • Hi LBB'ers!

Bingo hall are not as popular as they once were in the United States and there have been several club closings in the UK over the past couple of years.

In the US I had a bingo hall pretty close to me. I think it was called Gold Strike. It's long gone and I had been there a couple of times. I thought it was so sad when it closed down and I recall a friend's wife winning like $5K.

In the UK I had a Mecca Bingo and two Gala Bingo clubs near me. I love Gala and 90-ball bingo better than what I've seen in the US. It's much more popular too.

Since we are a community from all over the world I was wondering which bingo halls are near you and what are they like? Have you seen any close down?

  • I think that bingo in general isn't really a popular game in Serbia. It is a bit embarrassing but I can't tell with any certainty if we have any bingo halls here at all. At least I've never been in one.

  • We had a Bingo hall that very close to where i live but it shut down. There is a few others in the area.  A VFW hall that supports Italian war veterans has bingo daily and been there for years. I use to go there until they were under fire for fraud. Seems the employees who ran it were some how rigging the games so their family and friends would win. The managed to get out of that mess with new management but as a result i haven't gone back there!

Just noticed a newer bingo hall that just popped up about 5 min from me and it is something i been wanted to check out but just haven't yet.

    Lips

  • Good thing they got caught lips. I could see that sort of thing going on in the smaller games like that and I don't blame you for not going back. Once a bingo hall has earned a bad rep it's tough for the community to get past it. Is the new bingo hall you mentioned a big one?

Does anyone know of any 90-ball games played in the US?

  • All the ones close to me have closed down.  They've been knocked down and rebuilding of probably 100s of flats is in progress.  Very sad state of affairs - seems to be happening all over.

  • What a shame blue.  I can't believe that they've all closed down. Do you think part of the reason is because of the popularity of online bingo or simply the higher taxes placed on land based bingo operators?

  • They have a bingo hall in my local church, I go once in awhile. There used to be some pretty cool ones around me but they all shut down. It's a shame it's fading out by me it is a fun girls night.

I think it's a combination of online bingo, landlords getting very greedy and upping their rent and the lack of cash in peoples pockets.

  • I know what you mean blue. You can choose to spend pennies playing online bingo but going to a land based bingo hall will cost at least £10. I don't want to see it go. I hope over the next ten years we see bingo halls come back in full force!

  • We are living in a cruel world and everything is about money. I would like to see more bingo halls around but whatever is cheaper and more profitable will become predominant.

  • Very true Mark. I hope bingo halls don't become like VHS tapes, a distant memory.

  • The bingo hall I visit has been running for a very long time.
