  • Hi Bingo Dabbers!

I just read a story about a bind woman and the her outrageous experience at a Mecca Bingo in Cwmbran.

Pamela is a 62-year-old woman who is registered blind with limited sight in one eye. She was tempted to visit this club due to the free bingo night offer. She asked for the electronic bingo terminal and was told that she had to pay £15. Her daughter believes that it was discrimination for the staff to charge her when everyone else was able to play for free.

A spokesperson for Mecca said,  “Due to the way our electronic bingo terminals work, we operate under certain technical constraints which means we are only able to offer free bingo on paper."

    Definitely a flawed policy!

  • Really, "technical constraints" in 2015? Sounds like a cheap excuse to me.

  • It's sad that they need to come up with such lame excuses. Well, since they make the rules they know all loopholes.

  • Well, regarding spokesperson's statement, he/she really said nothing. Which technical constraints?

As for the blind woman, I suppose Mecca isn't the only bingo hall in that UK town? If they cannot meet the specific demands off their customers, there should be someone else who can...

  • I read these posts thinking it would be someone's story like....I only had 50 cents left for one card ...yadada....suddenly the numbers....yadada....five grand!  ....or something. I have only been to bingo in a hall once before but now I know to take a wall seat, facing in, and watch out for Hell's Grannies!

  • Unbelievable.  You would think that being blind or partially sighted, they would let her use it for free.  What does the £15 cost cover - did they say?

  • I have spent time with a blind person and its very fun to do the play-by-play for them. I am surprised they didn't have someone to sit down and do the cards or help do the cards while the numbers were being called, instead of embarasing people like this.

  • What does the £15 cost cover - did they say?

£15 is the cost of the basic package on the electronic bingo machine. The cost can go higher for more tickets but for £15 she definitely had tickets than everyone else playing for free.

    It's just greed then.....sigh

  • I just read that an 82-year-old man, Fred Smith, took an ice pick to an 88-year-old woman's tires because she was sitting in his chair at bingo LOL  He saw Ethel Britt in his spot during a bingo game at Lake Ashton Retirement Community Club House and went out to the parking lot to jab her tires. It was all caught on video and he felt bad after he did it. He must pay 500 bucks for new tires, pay restitution and now he is banned from playing bingo at the club house.

  • Man, these old dudes have a really short fuse when it comes to bingo :D

I couldn't agree more with you Johnny.

It's so funny. I guess most of them are fed up with life or something.... so strange that they can't just relax and enjoy the game. Well, that's bingo. :D

  • Fred and Ethel from the "I Love Lucy" show LOL

  • Omg, he might be 82,but his spirit is definitely under 21 :) I am still wondering is it possible that he has jabbed her tires.I mean,is it possible to drive a car at age 88 ?

Fred would be way too brave to sit next to Ethel. Great picture, Froggy.
