I learnt a trick from a wonderful man who was a merchant seaman for many years.  He said that people tend to tense up which means their stomach doesn't rock with the boat and that's why people get sea sick.  He said just let your stomach go with the boat, which I have to say actually worked. 

Sadly he is no longer with us - he was a wonderful man whose life was ended in the most sad way.
