Sales of sports lottery tickets are up due to the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
China General Administration of Sport statistics indicate that lotto sales reached a new high by midday on June 21st with sports lotto sales reaching 4 billion yuan (US$ 640 million).
This total alone surpasses the total sales for 2013 and the 2.3 billion yuan generated the 2010 World Cup.
It is being predicted that sales will exceed 10 billion yuan during this World Cup event. The explosion in lottery sales is believed to be due to the expansion of online gambling as well as the convenience of mobile apps.
