The fraud with millions of Euros
It has been reported in the Greeks newspapers this week that the state gambling monopoly OPAP is involved in the scandal that emerged after the charges laid by Eleni Raikou, an Athens prosecutor, on Monday. Besides OPAP, the owner of Intracom (telecommunication systems and technology group), Sokratis Kokalis and four more members of its subsidiary Intralot were accused that they had illegally deprived the state from tens of millions of Euros in 2007.
Eleni Raiku explained that the charges were brought in relation to the provision of Intralot technology to OPAP. Namely, the order for the new gaming terminals was originally worth Euro 96 million, but in the end, OPAP paid it Euro 300 million. An international tender was initially called for the order, but it was ended sooner then expected because two officials on the tender committee had resigned. Intralot's offer was then automatically taken, even though the offers made by three other companies were also assessed as competent.
