The life and times of Anna Ruhle Westerman who passed away on October 4, 2015 at the age of 89 was a good one. A daughter of Austrian and German immigrants, born and raised in Millvale, she married and raised a family of her own.
“One of the things she would like to do is listen to people sitting there telling their stories, talking back and forth,” said Deborah Dalo, her daughter. “She was more of a listener than a person providing information. People liked to be with her.
“You learned how you were supposed to be as a person: kind to other people, doing your duties that you've taken on in life and doing them to the best of their ability,” Dalo said.
Married for 64 years she often travelled to Mountaineer Casino in West Virginia with her husband Edgar Miles. She, a friend and her sister-in-law started a tradition that began back in the 1970s.
The ladies took the highway for a road trip to Amish country located in Lancaster four times a year. They got to know the staff quite well at Congress Inn where they lodged every time.
While there they visited markets and played Bingo. “She was a ball of fun. We had a good time,” said Shirley Ruhle her sister in-law. “She was closer to me than any sister you could have had. She was half my life. We did everything together.”
They were quite a pair in the bingo hall going nightly while on vacation. The two were partners and split every single win. The winnings added up and they bought something very special with the profits. Together they purchased a brand new Toyota Corollas in 1989, paying $10,700 each.
It proves that playing Bingo can turn a nice profit and if you are smart enough to save those winnings for a rainy day the possibilities of spending it are endless.
Mrs. Westerman will be remembered for the life she led filled with many happy memories.

Anna Ruhle Westerman sounds like a great lady indeed. She has left a lasting memory for all who knew her. That is so great she left her mark and a good mark at that. Rest in peace.
