The "First Thanksgiving" was celebrated by the Pilgrims after their first harvest in the New World in 1621 after they left from Plymouth, England. The commemorative steps are a landmark for tourists that still exist in Plymouth today. According to records the first feast lasted for three days and was shared with 90 Native Americans and 53 Pilgrims. It was customary for these New England colonists on a regular basis by thanking God for blessings in prayer.
Today traditionally households prepare a feast at their table consisting of turkey, cranberries, dressing and pumpkin pie for dessert. Family and friends gather for the special day and it is a time to catch up with each other. Thanksgiving is followed Black Friday that brings out all the bargain hunters for Christmas sales.
