More online action for state lotteries according to U.S. Digital Gaming co-chairman
An interesting interview with Richard Baskin, co-chairman of U.S. Digital Gaming, has been published this week, in which he predicted that online lottery activity in US states will note a significant growth as more governments go through with plans to go online. This is where Baskin's company, founded by former land gambling execs, can help out, since they assisted ten states to move online three years ago, and are still working with them.
The U.S. Digital Gaming has been raising its media profile for some time especially during hearings and online legalization initiatives in New Jersey, California, Nevada, and Iowa. It was earlier this year when it earned itself a strong position by offering relevant services to those fighting for online gambling legalization in the country.
The company raised around $3 million from outside investors, some of them very well-known, such as real estate developers, Herb Simon (a mall developer, also the owner of the Indiana Pacers basketball team), Steven Roth (Vornado Reality Trust Chairman), as well as Robert Taubman and William Taubman (leaders of real estate giant Taubman). This comes on top of more than $3 million that Baskin and Richard Bronson, his partner in founding the venture, have already invested.
According to a survey conducted by U.S. Digital Gaming, Americans annualy bet an estimated $66 billion in the U.S. so it is no wonder that individual states see a potentially huge revenue source in state lotteries which are set up as customers' favorites for some time already. Bronson says that by moving online these numbers are likely to grow.
There have been reports recently about several states currently making plans to start selling tickets for online subscription lottery service, actually following Minnesota, which started doing that almost a year ago. Being on the same track, Illinois passed a law in 2009 to set up an online lottery, and many other states also support moving their lotteries to the web, including California, New Jersey, D.C., Nevada, and most recently Massachusetts.
