Sazka fails to pay out the winnings to lucky players in Sportka lottery
It has been reported this week that the Czech lottery operator Sazka's license was suspended on temporarily bases by the Czech Finance Ministry. It seems that this state organization has been in heavy debt and it failed to meet legal deadlines for the payment of 103.4 million Koruna (GBP 3.74 million) to winners in the Sportka lottery. A ministry spokesman explained that the company can file an appeal within 15 days or the suspension would be removed after the winners were paid in full.
Currently, Sazka is under insolvency administration. There are around 1800 creditors, including really big groups like PPF and KKCG. The first problems started back in 2004 when Sazka agreed to pay for the Prague arena when world hockey championship games were held in Czech Republic. This situation was used by other Czech gaming companies that have launched their own lottery games; in addition, from May 16, Fortuna group should include in its offering an instant scratch game.
