Irish Lottery Worried About Online Wagering Decline
Expressing concerns over severe restrictions on Lotto ticket sales online, Ireland Public Expenditure Minister Brendan Howlin said that the National Lottery will "run out of steam" unless it can sell more of it.

In Ireland only 3 percent of tickets are sold online compared with up to 15 percent in other European lotteries, so the Minister intends to permit the National Lottery tickets to be sold online more easily in the future through a bill designed to sell off the National Lottery license for 20 years this year.

According to the Minister, the government plans to form an independent lottery regulator to be responsible for the licensing and regulation of online and other gambling operators in the Irish market.
