The duo pleads guilty, sentence to be pronounced in October
Another report came this week regarding the Jamaican police crackdown on online lottery scammers, informing the public that two St. Louis, Missouri residents who were arrested in the action pleaded guilty to scamming retirees across the US, and are now waiting for sentencing which will be pronounced in October.
The two indictees, 32-year-old Andre DePass and 24-year-old Jayneise Hampton pleaded guilty to several charges, while the third suspect, 33-year-old Nollis Hudson, remains at large.
The court documents note that a large number of Americans fell victims to the fraud conducted by the trio, of which Hudson phoned retirees and told them they had won the Jamaican lottery but needed to electronically transmit or mail funds to pay the taxes on their prize.
It appears that he also kept a majority of the funds obtained this way, as federal prosecutors claim that DePass and Hampton kept 20 percent of the money and wired the rest to Hudson in Jamaica.
