US Government Seizes Bodog.com

US Government Seizes Bodog.com
Bodog.com has been added to the list of seizures by the United States Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the Department of Justice (DOJ). The domain was seized on Monday, February 27, 2012 and now displays the DHS and DOJ logos.

Interestingly enough, Bodog has not utilized this site for quite some time and has since shifted to an .eu domain. The brand is licensed to operators around the world involving non US contracts and agreements. The recent government action bears no damaging effects on Bodog operations. In fact, it's business as usual for Bodog franchises around the globe.

Bodog founder, Calvin Ayre, had this to say regarding the situation:

“Not sure what to say. BodogBrand.com is a brand-licensing organisation based outside the US. The brand left the market last year and the domain in question has been dormant globally for longer than that. We are only currently doing brand licensing deals outside the US so this domain had no place in any of our current plans.”

At this point the motives for such an action taken by the US enforcement authorities and their sealed warrant are unknown. Additional details are sure to be forthcoming shortly.
