Scotty died after a car crash and injured four other minors on June 20th. Fire Chief Joe Wissel Jr wanted to give back after Scotty donated 55 hours of public service from January to April.
“He was such a good kid, such a nice kid,” Wissel said. “It's such a shame.” Many of the junior firefighters knew Scotty.
“It's just a great neighborhood and everyone is trying to help the family get through this,” Wissel said. “No matter what we can do, help them get through this. They were all friends with Scotty.
It's really opened their eyes as far as seat belt use. It could happen to anyone. It's important those kids realize now they're not invincible” said Wissel.
The bingo benefit hoped to draw 300 bingo players to donate as much as possible to his family.
