Her identity was not released but police have a hunch that she was walking to or from the bingo hall and probably lives in the area.
Officer Kirk Stowers said a 51-year-old man was driving 2003 Ford Taurus that struck the woman. He was uninjured.
“Since she did not use a crosswalk, of course the motorist did not expect a pedestrian to be in the street there," Stowers said. "Our message to the public is to be mindful that people, animals or any kind of an obstacle can go in the roadway where you least expect it."
Stowers also stated that pedestrians should be cautious when crossing the street because drivers are unable to see them at night.
"We want everyone to get to their destination safely," Stowers said. "This is a tragedy that we hate to work. Our thoughts are with everyone that's affected by this crash."
Residents of the neighborhood were visibly upset as police directed traffic. Two male relative of the victim were on site talking to police. There were approximately 60 people standing by as police flagged traffic by to deter them from the scene.
