Facebook launches a real-money bingo app in the UK on Tuesday. The new app is known as Bingo Friendzy.
Gamesys is the creator of Bingo Friendzy which is the first form of online gambling available on Facebook. As this bingo application does not involve Facebook credits, only players aged 18 or over are permitted to use it. It also includes a variety of filters to prevent underage players and problem gamblers.
Facebook intends to release real online slot games in the future.
"People love playing new types of games with their friends on Facebook and real money gaming is a popular leisure activity in the UK," said Julien Codorniou, Head of EMEA Gaming Partnerships at Facebook Europe. "We're delighted to be working with Gamesys to enable them to offer their games on Facebook so that people can enjoy playing more games with their friends."
Discussion surrounding the development and release of cash games began at the end of last year and involved Gamesys as well as other operators.
"We have launched this in the UK as it has a mature and very well-regulated gambling market, with a respected operator which provides its existing customers with great products and experiences," a Facebook spokesperson said.
