Great-Great Grandmother Who Has Played Bingo Every Week for 45-Years, Celebrates Huge Milestone

I ask you; could playing bingo regularly, help you live longer? I certainly couldn’t give you the answer to that one, but one woman from Yorkshire can. Eunice Greenwood, a great-great grandmother recently celebrated her 100^th birthday and she claims that the key to longevity is playing bingo regularly.

Celebrating her centenary on December 30^th at her local bingo hall, Eunice revealed that she has never missed a weekly game of bingo in 45-years! A special party was held for her at the bingo hall she has been attending with her daughter every Sunday since 1974. That’s some achievement.

Buzz Bingo staff at the Keighley branch rolled out the red carpet for the twice-widowed great-great grandmother to ensure her birthday was one to remember. Cakes, cocktails and cards from well wishes were flowing on the evening, but not before she was picked up from her home in a chauffeur driven limousine.

The evening was made all the more special when her two children, Glenis 73 and Duncan 75 making appearance, along with six of her grandchildren, eight of her great-grandchildren and nine of her great-great grandchildren. And I thought my family was big! I wonder if she picked up a birthday bonus.

It’s Time to Party!

Glenis, who accompanies Eunice to the bingo every week said: "Everybody was able to get together which was brilliant. She loved having all her family round her for her big day, some of them live as far away as London and Weymouth so she doesn't get to see them that often.A young girl who works at the bingo presented her with a cake that her sister had made for her, which was lovely.”

"We've been coming here for what feels like my whole life and she couldn't have celebrated her birthday anywhere better. They did a party for her last year when she turned 99 and the manager realised her age and organised another one to celebrate her turning 100.

They put a limousine on for her and picked her up. There was six of us in the limo and it drove her round for a bit to let her enjoy the ride before dropping her off at the bingo where they had the red carpet rolled out for her. She loved it, she didn't quite think she deserved such a fuss, but she was happy to be with her friends and family at the place she loves."

Eunice could think of no better place to celebrate her birthday, having been attending for some 4 and a half decades now. She said: "Bingo means everything to me. I've been so spoilt here, everybody has been great to me, I had a wonderful time. I’ve been visiting Buzz Bingo with my daughter every Sunday since the ’70s and couldn’t have celebrated my 100th birthday anywhere better."

Boost Your Brain Power

Speaking to local news, Glenis believes her mothers’ mind has been kept sharp and active due to her weekly bingo games. And, research carried out recently concluded that bingo is a great way of boosting your brain, which aids for better cognitive functions during later life.
