Interactive television and its potential offering of great interest to the company
An interesting investigation has been initiated by the Canadian Crown corporation, Atlantic Lottery Corporation (ALC) – that of alternative revenue streams, specifically on the viability of an interactive television wagering service.
With this research, the corporation, jointly-owned by the four Atlantic provincial governments: New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, and Newfoundland and Labrador, plans to help boost its declining revenues.
According to Jennifer Lawlor, spokesperson for ALC, "It's about us doing due diligence because of the emerging trend in the technology world. Computers and televisions are moving together and there's different offerings with both."
However, in light of concerns that the easy accessibility of interactive television wagering would risk increase in problem gambling, a Newfoundland and Labrador Government spokesperson Luke Joyce stated that “any new service would be reviewed closely before any purchase or contract was undertaken.”
