Tombola Redesign One of Its Popular Games and Not Everyone is Happy!

Monday 7th April, Tombola issued a status update on its website after teasing players for what seemed an eternity! Players were expecting a new game – what they weren’t expecting was a disappointing change of appearance! The update read:

“Our revamped Cinco is here! Cinco is a firm favourite here at tombola, so we decided to give it a little bit of tlc. We've polished the tables, spruced up the cards and given the game a new lick of paint. We think it looks super glam! The game still plays the same, with tickets from 5p, so why not pop over and see what you think of Cinco's new look?”

There are many rooms to choose from in this card-based game; eight in the 5p rooms, five in the 10p rooms, three in the 20p rooms and four in the 40p rooms. To better explain, I’ll talk you through the major changes in Five-a-Side, the football themed bingo game.

Previously, the layout of the room was bright and attractive, despite its crazy shade of green. The cards used for each hand were identical to that of a deck of cards used in the popular table games of blackjack or poker. When it came to mark the cards, the chips (which were created to resemble footballs) made it easier to see how close you were to winning. But all that has been thrown out the window!

Old vs New

Going from bright green to a bold purple which I could only describe as a booth within a speakeasy, should’ve been a welcomed change, but it wasn’t. When you have a bustling community, there’s bound to be a few that don’t agree with change, and one of those is me! Honestly, the room is so dark, dull and dingy now and scores – if not hundreds are saying the same thing.

Another major change has come with the cards making it all the more difficult to follow. What was once a simple game now has players scrambling out the door in their masses, and many vow never to return to Cinco until the room is put back to the way it was before. Forget following the suits on the cards, or the colours because despite the modern twist, it looks very old and unappealing.

Sharon Jones, a loyal Tombola player took to their Facebook page to leave her comments on the new theme:

“What have they done to Cinco? I love this game but now I can barely identify the different cards and anyone with a sight problem will be the same. Come on Tombola, put it to a player vote and I bet everyone will prefer the old set up.

If it stays as it is then I will have to look for something new to play because the strain on the eyes causes a headache.”

Jane Catherine Bennett added: “Why change what wasn’t broke. Bring back the old original game, I hate this changing things all the time. I don’t cope well with change, stop doing it. I don’t think I will be playing five a side anymore.”

Janet Woolhouse: “Not taken with the back ground colours totally not liking the cards they all look like aces very confusing wen u need an ace.”

And Minka Minka Moo also threw her thoughts into the ever-growing pot of disgruntled players comments: “Really think it looks awful sorry :( can't make out the pics its all a blur. It looks dreary and out dated. Was my fav game to play. Cannot play like that such a shame”
