Update: New Details on Ontario Lottery’s Preparations to Go Online
Set up to be conducted with help from Sports Gaming Limited

Following last year's announcements made by the most populated Canadian province, Ontario's Lottery and Gaming Corporation that it will start offering regulated online gambling, this week arrived the news that it has awarded its internet gambling expert consulting contract to Sports Gaming Limited.

Sports Gaming's role implies that it will help the Corporation move towards online operations, having in mind that the implementation process has begun and that it should be conducted by 2012.

According to the Corporation, "Between now and 2012 when the program is set to launch, OLG will benefit from analyzing and enhancing best practices and security procedures adopted in other jurisdictions across Canada and in Europe. In particular, OLG will implement a strong responsible gambling program and offer increased player protections, secure transactions and data privacy."

The question of the site itself is the field to which OLG plans to dedicate special attention, as it strives to offer “an appealing, well-managed, well-run Internet gaming site that will meet Ontarians' expectations for such an offering, and increase net profit to the province.”

With this goal in mind, OLG has determined five key 'public interest' principles: Promotion of Responsible Gambling, Prevention of Access by Minors, Protection of Personal Information, the Integrity of Games, Support for the Detection of Money Laundering and other Criminal Activity.

As the accomplishment of these principles will largely depend on the OLG's consultations, it has been specified that those will focus on three elements: Expert Roundtables, Public Sector Partners, and Business Input.
