Charity Begins at (Mecca) Bingo This Christmas
Christmas is coming, there’s no doubt about that, and only yesterday we were treated to a small flurry of snow here in the furthest corner of windy Wales. While many of us look forward to getting the family together for festive fun, there are some who cannot afford to do so, and Mecca Bingo and the Swansea branch of Mecca Bingo, want to change that.
Returning for a second year is the Everyone Deserves a Christmas campaign featuring charitable games and now, donations. The appeal is nationwide and aims to help families in need this Christmas. All 71 clubs in the UK will get together to ensure nobody goes without in their local communities.
Seasonal Struggles are Real
In 2020, Mecca Bingo teamed up with 52 individual charities and their efforts raised £185K in cash for the hampers, each packed with goodies. The final count was 3,800 hampers which were delivered across the UK. This is year is a little different, what with food poverty on the rise and now utility bills on the rise, which means many more are struggling, but Swansea branch of Mecca Bingo want to go one better and have set themselves a target of 4,000 hampers – a total amount of £200K!
Swansea branch of the bingo will be raising money for the local Swans Community Trust, Swansea City FC’s registered charity, to help them deliver help when it is needed in the community. Donations are very much welcome, both in-club or online and can be made in the form of cash donations or non-perishable food and drink, unopened toiletries and the like.
On November 27th, a charity bingo game got underway with a prize pool of £2K. The money raised from this game will go towards the Christmas appeal. Missed it? There are more charity bingo games scheduled online until December 10th, with all proceeds going to Mecca Bingo’s chosen charity, Carers Trust.
Kimberley Jones, General Manager at Mecca Swansea, said: “We’re thrilled to be bringing back Mecca’s Everyone Deserves a Christmas appeal for a second year and to be helping those who need it the most within our community. Christmas should be magical, and we are determined to make it as special as can be for as many as possible. We just couldn’t do this without the incredible support of our customers and local supporters – we know this year that people will exceed all expectations with their generosity”
Online bingo games aim to raise £20K (on top of in-club donations) for charity, only they need your help to do this. You can win the same great cash prizes only difference is, all profits go to charity. Play in The Main Event, Two Little Ducks, Penny Lane, Rollercoaster or Lucky for Some rooms from 12:30pm daily to help make a difference this Christmas.

Clubs all around the UK are doing this too. You can drop items into staff at your bingo halls if you want to help. Many in our club are donating the physical prizes they win when playing. Last time they handed out 5 chocolate hampers as prizes and all five were donated to the appeal.
