  • There are so many collectible items out there right now. I wonder what will be worth anything in the future.

So true Froggy.  Anything "limited edition" with not too many being made for that limited edition.  Solid gold would help.  ;)

  • This summer has been a scorchers for many regions with record breaking temperatures. Chicago alone has had Vegas like desert temperatures that have reached 115 degrees with the heat index.

Here are some tips to help stay cool this summer:

    1. Alter your pattern of outdoor exercise to take advantage of cooler times (early morning or late evening). If you can't change the time of your workout, scale it down by doing fewer minutes, walking instead or running, or decreasing your level of exertion.

    2. Wear loose-fitting clothing, preferably of a light color.

    3. Cotton clothing will keep you cooler than many synthetics.

    4. Fill a spray bottle with water and keep it in the refrigerator for a quick refreshing spray to your face after being outdoors.

    5. Fans can help circulate air and make you feel cooler even in an air-conditioned house.

    6. Try storing lotions or cosmetic toners in the refrigerator to use on hot, overtired feet.

    7. Keep plastic bottles of water in the freezer; grab one when you're ready to go outside. As the ice melts, you'll have a supply of cold water with you.

    8. Take frequent baths or showers with cool or tepid water.

    9. Combat dehydration by drinking plenty of water along with sports drinks or other sources of electrolytes.

    10. Some people swear by small, portable, battery-powered fans. At an outdoor event I even saw a version that attaches to a water bottle that sprays a cooling mist.

    11. I learned this trick from a tennis pro: if you're wearing a cap or hat, remove it and pour a bit of ice cold water into the hat, then quickly invert it and place on your head.

    12. Avoid caffeine and alcohol as these will promote dehydration.

    13. Instead of hot foods, try lighter summer fare including frequent small meals or snacks containing cold fruit or low fat dairy products. As an added benefit, you won't have to cook next to a hot stove.

    14. If you don't have air-conditioning, arrange to spend at least parts of the day in a shopping mall, public library, movie theater, or other public space that is cool. Many cities have cooling centers that are open to the public on sweltering days.

    15. Finally, use common sense. If the heat is intolerable, stay indoors when you can and avoid activities in direct sunlight or on hot asphalt surfaces. Pay special attention to the elderly, infants, and anyone with a chronic illness, as they may dehydrate easily and be more susceptible to heat-related illnesses.

Don't forget that pets also need protection from dehydration and heat-related illnesses too.

  • It's time to pick your peaches...or someone else's as our lipstick_xoxos knows all too well. In honor of her peach tree shenanigans, I thought I'd share some tips for those in the north who are in the midst of peach time.

    tumblr_l7qe8xqLzf1qabj53o1_400.jpg

Before you leave to go to the farm (or lips' yard):

Always call before you go to the farm (or sneak like thieves in the night) - Peaches are affected by weather (both rain and cooler temperature) more than most crops. And when they are in season, a large turnout can pick a field clean before noon, so CALL first!

Leave early (or middle of the night so lips doesn't see you).  On weekends, then fields may be picked clean by NOON!

Most growers furnish picking containers designed for peaches, but they may charge you for them (unless you just steal them); be sure to call before you go to see if you need to bring containers (or plastic Walmart bags).

If you use your own containers, remember that heaping Peaches more than 14 inches deep will bruise the fruit on the bottom. Plastic dishpans, metal oven pans with 3 inch tall sides and large pots make good containers.

Bring something to drink and a few snacks; you'd be surprised how you can work up a thirst and appetite! And don't forget hats and sunscreen for the sun. Bugs usually aren't a problem, but some deet might be good to bring along if it has been rainy.

You might want to ask whether the peaches are! There are two major types of peaches: "Freestone" and. "Clingstone". Freestone peaches and nectarines have flesh that slips easily away from the pit. Clingstones are a REAL pain, because the fruit tenaciously clings to the stone or pit! Most peach varieties grown today are freestone and are usually available (depending upon your location) from June through September. Some nectarines are freestone and some are clingstone. Freestone nectarines are available in June and July. Most plum varieties are clingstone.

So, all you Little Miss Bingo babes can be Little Miss Peach Pickers!

    Love,

    Froggy

  • Lips you aint ever going to live this down. btw really love your peaches want to shake your tree ha ha.

  • Lmaooooo now now liquor you don't want to get on my bad boy peach list! Remember what you said about a woman scorned.  :P

  • It's Labor Day in the USA and this marks the end of summer. Another thing that comes to and end is wearing white. You may not be caught dead wearing white. Why? Who knows. Maybe it's because you could end up like some of these poor souls...

It gets a little muddy in the October and November

    th_5428786477_5ca89bbeba.jpg

Now if he'd been wearing white, he'd never have been found

    th_johncastanavalanchecrop-420x0.jpg

So, stay away from that white. After all, it's safety first! But if you really want to be a Naughty Bingo babe, there's always "winter white".

  • I thought it was white tennis shoes we couldn't wear after today.  I get around that by just not cleaning the dirt off of mine.

    : )

  • Mother Nature is Full of Surprises

It has been a wild ride this summer, or should I say all the way from last winter she was up to some devilish antics turning our weather topsy turvy across the globe. It was nice to have unseasonably warm temperatures in the Winter and Spring but the summer was a real scorcher with record breaking heat. Having visited the UK for two months during the Spring and Summer it was unusually rainy and cold.

    th_imgres-42.jpg

    th_imgres-41.jpg

I wonder if she is mad, after all if it is a result of globing warming and we can’t blame anyone but ourselves for that. It is turning the animal kingdom upside down and when I see photos of Polar Bears and Penguins perishing due to warmer weather conditions it is heart breaking.

So what can we do to reverse global warming? Ahh it’s 64,000 dollar/pound/euro question!

    Here are a few tips:

    1. Reduce, Reuse, Recycle

Do your part to reduce waste by choosing reusable products instead of disposables. Buying products with minimal packaging (including the economy size when that makes sense for you) will help to reduce waste. And whenever you can, recycle paper, plastic, newspaper, glass and aluminum cans. If there isn't a recycling program at your workplace, school, or in your community, ask about starting one. By recycling half of your household waste, you can save 2,400 pounds of carbon dioxide annually.

    2. Use Less Heat and Air Conditioning

Adding insulation to your walls and attic, and installing weather stripping or caulking around doors and windows can lower your heating costs more than 25 percent, by reducing the amount of energy you need to heat and cool your home.

Turn down the heat while you're sleeping at night or away during the day, and keep temperatures moderate at all times. Setting your thermostat just 2 degrees lower in winter and higher in summer could save about 2,000 pounds of carbon dioxide each year.

    3. Change a Light Bulb

Wherever practical, replace regular light bulbs with compact fluorescent light (CFL) bulbs. Replacing just one 60-watt incandescent light bulb with a CFL will save you $30 over the life of the bulb. CFLs also last 10 times longer than incandescent bulbs, use two-thirds less energy, and give off 70 percent less heat.

If every U.S. family replaced one regular light bulb with a CFL, it would eliminate 90 billion pounds of greenhouse gases, the same as taking 7.5 million cars off the road.

    4. Drive Less and Drive Smart

Less driving means fewer emissions. Besides saving gasoline, walking and biking are great forms of exercise. Explore your community mass transit system, and check out options for carpooling to work or school.

When you do drive, make sure your car is running efficiently. For example, keeping your tires properly inflated can improve your gas mileage by more than 3 percent. Every gallon of gas you save not only helps your budget, it also keeps 20 pounds of carbon dioxide out of the atmosphere.

    5. Buy Energy-Efficient Products

When it's time to buy a new car, choose one that offers good gas mileage. Home appliances now come in a range of energy-efficient models, and compact florescent bulbs are designed to provide more natural-looking light while using far less energy than standard light bulbs.

Avoid products that come with excess packaging, especially molded plastic and other packaging that can't be recycled. If you reduce your household garbage by 10 percent, you can save 1,200 pounds of carbon dioxide annually.

    6. Use Less Hot Water

Set your water heater at 120 degrees to save energy, and wrap it in an insulating blanket if it is more than 5 years old. Buy low-flow showerheads to save hot water and about 350 pounds of carbon dioxide yearly. Wash your clothes in warm or cold water to reduce your use of hot water and the energy required to produce it. That change alone can save at least 500 pounds of carbon dioxide annually in most households. Use the energy-saving settings on your dishwasher and let the dishes air-dry.

    7. Use the "Off" Switch

Save electricity and reduce global warming by turning off lights when you leave a room, and using only as much light as you need. And remember to turn off your television, video player, stereo and computer when you're not using them.

It's also a good idea to turn off the water when you're not using it. While brushing your teeth, shampooing the dog or washing your car, turn off the water until you actually need it for rinsing. You'll reduce your water bill and help to conserve a vital resource.

    8. Plant a Tree

If you have the means to plant a tree, start digging. During photosynthesis, trees and other plants absorb carbon dioxide and give off oxygen. They are an integral part of the natural atmospheric exchange cycle here on Earth, but there are too few of them to fully counter the increases in carbon dioxide caused by automobile traffic, manufacturing and other human activities. A single tree will absorb approximately one ton of carbon dioxide during its lifetime.

    9. Get a Report Card from Your Utility Company

Many utility companies provide free home energy audits to help consumers identify areas in their homes that may not be energy efficient. In addition, many utility companies offer rebate programs to help pay for the cost of energy-efficient upgrades.

    10. Encourage Others to Conserve

Share information about recycling and energy conservation with your friends, neighbors and co-workers, and take opportunities to encourage public officials to establish programs and policies that are good for the environment.

  • Good tips for folks to follow. Only problem is I wonder if its enough to reverse the damage. Those pictures are heart breaking lipstick but bring about awareness.

  • OMG I've watched so many documentaries on this subject. It's horrible to think of the animals that have lost their habitats because we have taken over or damaged the earth in so many ways. There was a story on a Polar Bear that swam for miles to find land. Ugh it was so sad.

  • Good tips for folks to follow. Only problem is I wonder if its enough to reverse the damage. Those pictures are heart breaking lipstick but bring about awareness.

I worry about that too Patty. I just hope its not too late.

  • Save water, shower with a friend.

Always turn out the lights when having sex.

I've heard some of those polar bear pictures were not at all as tragic as they made them out to be.  I hope so.  It's tough for animals everywhere, including the human ones.  We, though, have some power to do something about it.

  • Hi Bingo Babes!

Fall is on it's way and many rough riders are putting away their motorcycles until spring. There are masks these days to protect you from the wind and cold weather. Some of you savvy motorcyclists probably already have some sort of facial protection. This post is for you. Take a little friendly advice when choosing your face gear. Some of them could put you in more danger than playing chicken on a slick road.

This first example could make some wonder which bank you just robbed. You don't want to be interrogated by the police do you?

    robber.png

This one could have folks thinking you're a descendant of Spider Man if not the man himself. It's then when you'll try to launch your super sticky webbing to escape. But wait, you're not superhuman.

    spider_man.png

Finally, you could be mistaken for Hannibal Lector. If you must have this one then at least be careful where you go joy riding. You could get a taste of your own medicine and be chased by people armed with forks and knives.

    Hanibal.png

I say choose something a bit less threatening. Like this. Besides, it looks like a bingo ball.

Ride down the Bingo Street with confidence! Go with the pink bingo ball!
