The million-dollar mystery could soon end with a tragically ever after conclusion, and it is extremely rare that a large prize goes unclaimed or unnoticed, comments Andrea Marantz, a Western Canada Lottery Corporation spokesperson. Howqwever, there have been exceptions in history, making Alberta one of the leading territories when it comes to "unwanted" lottery prizes.
From $50K to $15M:
The largest unclaimed lottery bonanza in Canada happened in 2006 when a $14.9 million draw went back into the prize pool for bonus draws. The year-long window came and went, making it completely impossible for the winner to walk away with a fortune, added Marantz. She also hopes that the person who had the ticket never finds out about the win...
More Money Awaits:
At the time being, around $2.9 million of lottery money is waiting to be claimed in Alberta. The winners have 365 days to confirm their winnings, otherwise, the money will go back into the pool. The results of the lottery are also available online, and the WCLC site covers even unclaimed prizes from Saskatchewan, Manitoba and the Territories.
