Toddler Slept While Parents Were Slain in Own Home
Big bingo news to bring you today regarding the gruesome murder of a bingo hall thief and his wife in 2021. Geoffrey Hibbert 61 and his friend Stan Elliot 52 carried out a burglary at a Buzz Bingo venue in Basingstoke a year earlier in 2020, but their friendship turned sour when Elliot discovered Hibbert and his wife planned to throw him under the bus for the £28K bingo raid.
It was claimed during questioning that it was Hibbert’s plan to break into the bingo venue and of the £28K money taken, only £4K was given to Elliot. When police were carrying out enquiries into who had targeted the venue, a mobile phone was discovered and that led them directly to Hibbert. Carted to the police station for questioning, the man revealed that he had given his phone to his friend Elliot the day before and therefore it must have been him who carried out the raid.
Money Leads to Murder
Elliot was happy to go along with the story him and his friend concocted together until a year later in 2021 it was put to him (by police) that Hibbert had signed documents that removed himself from the bingo theft altogether. Soon after discovering the couples plan to “frame him and him alone”, Elliot agreed to babysit the Hibbert’s toddler while they went out for the evening.
Early hours the next morning a call was made to the emergency services by Mrs Hibbert (on Elliot’s personal mobile phone) where she is recorded telling them…
… “Stan Elliot” is attacking her. The mobile phone puts Elliot at the scene of the crime. Sadly, by the time the emergency services arrived both Mr and Mrs Hibbert had passed away. The frenzied attack took place while their toddler was asleep in the next room.
Police arrested Elliot at his home address where he claimed he had left them after they returned and had not carried out the attacks. The marks on his face was tell them otherwise. Fast forward to March 2022 where the Honourable Justice Neil Garnham of Winchester Crown Court had the pleasure of sentencing Elliot to 34-years in prison for the double murders of Geoffrey and Michele Hibbert.
It was revealed Elliot had stabbed Geoffrey a total of 58 times in the neck and torso while his wife Michelle 29, was knifed 7 times. Justice Neil Garnham said: “This was a prolonged, angry and frenzied knife attack by you on two defenceless people that caused them both great pain and led, eventually, to their deaths. This must have been the most dreadful and terrifying of deaths for Geoffrey and Michelle. They each knew that you were stabbing their spouse. You were a guest as [the son's] babysitter and you abused that status in the most egregious of ways.”
