Bingo Community Called Upon for Cancer Charity
There’s a lot going on in the world at the moment with too many distractions and lots of worrying, but us ladies and gents should take a break from all of that regularly to check we are okay! In October, a report was published indicating that some 30,000 people between March and July in Wales had gone without much-needed mammograms, and as a result, many are now faced with the prospect of an even-uncertain future, all thanks to undetected breast cancer.
Breast cancer is the most common cancer in women in the UK with a major breast cancer charity estimating one woman is diagnosed every 10-minutes. However, it’s not only women who are diagnosed, some 370 men are too! Eight of out 10 cases are in women aged 50 and over with 7,600 estimated to be women in their 40’s. But younger women are not immune to the disease either, with some 4% being diagnosed under the age of 39.
Whip It Out and Check it Out
There are many worrying statistics there, but we should look on the positives too – almost 9 in 10 breast cancer patients survive for five years or more. My mother who was diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer had to have a double mastectomy and lymph nodes removed to beat hers and she’s still here 7-years later! The scary part is it’s prolific in my family, so it’s a waiting game for us, which his why it’s important to know the signs and symptoms of breast cancer, how many do you recognise? According to Breast Cancer Now, the common breast cancer signs are:
- A lump or swelling in the breast, upper chest or armpit. You might feel the lump, but not see it.
- Changes in the size or shape of the breast
- A change in skin texture i.e. puckering or dimpling of the skin
- A change in the colour of the breast - the breast may look red or inflamed
- Rash, crusting or changes to the nipple
- Any unusual discharge from either nipple
Funding has been halted for all charities not just cancer charities and they’re calling on us to help out now more than ever and you can do that without having to bake a cake or hold a virtual coffee morning. Simply make your way to Chit Chat Bingo on World Cancer Day and play bingo! Ticket prices will vary but will never cost more than 5p each and 1p of each ticket sale will go direct to Against Breast Cancer. Over the course of the evening, they are hoping to raise hundreds and with your help maybe even thousands! And, if you have the luck of the Irish and you win, you win real cash with no wagering! Raising funds for charity has never been easier! Don’t forget to get involved with the chat either, there could be some surprises here too!

Brilliant way to help without even realising it! I did it last year and it was really fun!
