If I were to ask you what you were doing back in March, the chances are you wouldn’t remember, but one lucky Glaswegian knew exactly what they were doing – winning the lottery! On March 17th, a single ticketholder scooped the top prize of £57,869,670 on the EuroMillions but the claim was only verified over the weekend, just days before the deadline was due!
The National Lottery states that players have 180 days to claim their prizes on winning tickets, after which the prize money is donated to the Good Causes fund. At the end of March, the lottery urged the winner to come forward and released a reminder of those winning numbers; 05, 07, 08, 16 and 20 with lucky stars 02 and 12.
But despite validating the lottery jackpot win…
…in September, The National Lottery revealed a claim for the prize was made back in April, but they’re refusing to say whether it that was the real winner or not. A spokesperson at Camelot confirmed they would only be able to identify the winner with their permission before going on to say:
"We can confirm that we received a claim on this prize in April, but we don't comment on the detail of individual claims. However, as with all major prizes, any claim goes through a rigorous validation process to ensure the prize can be paid under the National Lottery game rules. With all National Lottery draws, players have 180 days from the day of the draw to claim their prize. If a valid claim is not received within this period, the prize money is passed to good causes."
Unclaimed Prizes
There are eight unclaimed prizes…
…still waiting to find their rightful owner, but time is running out for those winnings to be claimed – real money winnings remember! If you have unchecked lottery tickets, we urge you to go give them a once-over. If you’re unsure how to do this, you can check on the website or you can download the free mobile app where pointing the camera at the barcode on your ticket can produce an instant result of win or lose!

I couldn’t imagine winning that sum of money! And imagine losing a ticket too! I always play via the app, so the ticket is digital and I’m told of a win soon after the draw is done.
