‘Everybody Get Up’ and Mecca Lot of Noise for the 90’s Chart-Topping Band – 5ive

The 1990’s were great for pop music from ‘Hit Me Baby One More Time’ by Britney Spears to ‘Don’t Speak’ by No Doubt, but the 90’s were also big on boybands – one of which was 5ive. It all began in 1997 for the boyband– that’s 22 years ago and I remember it vividly. At the time I was 10-years old and I’d often watch my older sisters get ready for discos and every Saturday without fail, they’d play 5ive’s album on my CD player. Boy, how times have changed.

The name of the band was chosen to represent the number of people within it, but on 27th September 2001, the band split after selling a staggering 20million records worldwide. But now they’re back, almost 18-years to the day to perform a special gig for some very lucky bingo players in Bolton!

Slam Dunk (Da Funk):

The group known for hits such as ‘Keep On Movin’ and their remake of Brian May’s ‘We Will Rock You’ will perform at Mecca Bingo in Bolton on 21st September, so if you’re a local resident, you may need to camp out to get a good seat as the premises are set to be packed and this is despite 5ive only appearing as a trio instead of a quintet.

Simon Davis, Operations Manager at Mecca Bolton, said: “We are thrilled to be hosting 5ive here in Bolton for one night only. This will add to the already vibrant and varied nightlife which graces Bolton each weekend.”

Okay, so you won’t need to camp out like you would for a Harrods Boxing Day sale, you simply need to head to the Mecca Bingo hall in Bolton to purchase tickets at a cost of £15 each. The evening schedule is as follows:

  • Eyes down for bingo at 5:30pm
  • A Steps and Vengaboys tribute act at 8pm
  • 5ive will perform at the end of the evening.

Ritchie Neville, Sean Conlon and Scott Robinson will sing many of their chart-topping hits all designed to get you up on your feet and grooving. ‘If Ya Getting’ Down,’ ‘Let’s Dance,’ ‘Rock the Party,’ and ‘When the Lights Go Out’ are bound to feature somewhere within the act.

If you’re a huge fan of the band but are not local to Bolton, you can still see them perform because tickets go on sale online too! Travelling to the bingo hall is an option – think of it as heading off to a festival or a concert, only it’s a little more intimate.
