Germany's first nationwide state lottery Gemeinsame Klassenlotterie (GKL) has been formed following the agreement between two state lottery vendors NKL German Lottery Northwest (NKL) and the South German Class Lottery (SKL) ensuring that sixteen German Lander have comprehensive offerings.
From now on, NKL and SKL will be operated as a joint institution of public law and their merge has been described as a primarily corrective measure introduced by the Prime Minister as an amendment to the State Treaty on Gambling.
The new national lottery products will remain unchanged for players, with head offices of both state vendors to remain situated in Hamburg and Munich, yet new additions to the existing lottery offerings are promised by 2013.
As per the joint advisory of Dr. Gerhard Rombach, former Director of SKL, and the present NKL CEO Günther Schneider, the main intention of the German Government is provision of an attractive alternative to private gambling sites under a Government-guaranteed, controlled system of lotteries and related gaming activity.
