Pam Cook, a 48-year old foster carer from Barrow is counting her lucky stars today after she managed to scoop £9,034.40p on the National Live Game on Wednesday night. Mr Cook went along to the Apollo Bingo hall with her daughter Coral for an evening of session bingo but never in a million years did she think her numbers would come up.
Visiting the Hollywood Retail Park bingo club which she has been a member for almost a decade now, Pam revealed that she had never won more than £200 before. Speaking to the local press, she said that there’s usually a group of them that attend bingo and when either of them wins, they place the winnings into a pot and share at Christmas; s you can see why there could be some tension over her win.
“There’s a group of four of us who go quite often but on Wednesday I was just with my daughter. Whenever we win, if the whole group is there, we put all the winnings together and then share it out at Christmas. We’ve won £50, £100, £200 but never any more than that so it was a bit of a shock. This is our first major win.”
Major Win and Major Plans:
Midweek prizes on Majestic Bingo’s National Live Game awards prizes of £5000 during the week, £10,000 on Saturday and £25,000 on Sundays and tickets cost just £1 each. Pam plans to use her new-found fortune on upgrading her home.
“I’ve been saying for three years that I want a new bathroom, but we kept putting it off. My son got married so we spent the money on that but now I want to get my bathroom done.”
Daryl Boothroyd, general manager for Apollo said: “It’s great to see a local lady win such a large amount here at Apollo Bingo. We appear to be having a run of luck over the past few months with members taking away some great wins. Only last week a lucky gentleman won £3,000 in the afternoon.”
He continued: “The atmosphere was electric when Pam shouted for the full house with everyone clapping and shouting congratulations to her. We plan on having a party to celebrate in the next few weeks. We just love it when our regular customers win big. What’s not to celebrate?”
I can only imagine what Pam’s friends are thinking right now; the only day they don’t go and one of the group wins big! I think if that we’re me I would be mortified! What about you? Best bingo policy from my perspective is to go it alone!
