New stats about gambling in the UK have been released, showing the latest trends about online gaming in general, but primarily focusing on bingo, slots and casino games. The new insights have shown that almost 63% of Britain’s inhabitants gamble at some level, whereas this figure decreases up to 10% when it comes to online gambling.
However, younger generations are the industry’s future, as 16-34 year old adults mostly decide to play online bingo, slots or other video games, including table, lottery or scratchcards. Still, most female bingo players prefer to play the old fashioned way, by joining or buying tickets for bingo halls. This way of gambling has been the most beloved way of laying odds for quite some time, especially among older women. Even the number of younger females aged 16-24 has increased, showing signs of a rise in popularity across the island.
There have also been some reports about rise in problem gambling throughout the UK. According to statistics, almost 0.8% of all adults on the island were identified as potential gambling addicts. UKGC officials have stated that more actions need to be taken in order to tackle this issue, implying that current legislative changes are not sufficient or fast enough.
The Government has also delayed the audit of questionable betting terminals until October, stating that the General Election slowed down the parliamentary process. The results of a better outcome are yet to be seen, since online gambling will not be affected the same way as operators or players.
At this moment, there are more than two excellent agencies that provide support and advice on problem gambling, including GamCare and BeGambleAware.
