A report came this week that the trade body for Argentina's state lotteries, the Asociación de Loterías, Quinielas y Casinos Estatales (ALEA) has initiated a research and formed an advisory group to make recommendations regarding the regulation of online gambling in the country.
As a 23-member body, ALEA seeks to establish the role of internet gambling in Argentina and develop the most adequate system of regulation in case of acceptance of the pastime.
A spokesman said this week that such a system was necessary to prevent offshore online gambling operators from offering their services to Argentinians, prospering from their participation without paying Argentine taxes.
