Bingo daubers from the North-East of Britain have had a successful fundraising campaign with an impressive total going to a vital children’s charity. All it took was eight weeks and loyal players turning up to try and win themselves some cash in the process and hey presto – more than £100,00 going to Variety; the children’s charity.
The final amount raised was confirmed to be £107,067 and needless to say, Mecca Scarborough are delighted to present a cheque to the very worthy cause. It’s noted that the money raised will go towards helping ease the lives of disabled and disadvantaged children around the whole of the UK – not just in Scarborough.
Life-Changing Collaboration:
After teaming up to Variety, Mecca Bingo and the players who made this a reality, are thrilled that the money will be used to buy essential accessible coaches for easier travel and this in turn will allow them to visit many different places – some in which they’ve never seen before.
Paul Webb, club manager at Mecca Scarborough, said: “We are so delighted to have been involved with such a life-changing collaboration with Variety and to have contributed to the incredible final figure. Our customers enjoyed the Sunshine Flyer game immensely and were so glad to be playing a game that had such a great cause.”
Danielle Roche, Corporate Partnerships Manager at Variety, said: “We are extremely proud to have worked alongside Mecca Bingo and to have raised the life-changing amount of £107,067 which will go towards providing essential funds for Variety the Children’s Charity and continue to support the work that the charity carries our across the country."
Miles Baron, Chief Executive of the Bingo Association, said: “I would like to thank Mecca Bingo and their customers for all their incredible support and generosity in raising above and beyond our initial target of £80,000 for our chosen charity, Variety the Children’s Charity. Thanks to this latest contribution, the amount total raised by bingo clubs across the UK for Variety is nearly at £1,500,000. The money raised will have a direct impact on drastically improving the lives of thousands of disadvantaged and sick children throughout the UK."
The Charity:
Vitality was founded in 1927 with one goal in mind; to help children deal with sickness, disability or disadvantage. Having to live with any of these can be really tough and the charity provide practical, tangible help that will make an immediate difference to those children and their families.
The benefits of the charity include:
- A wheelchair doesn’t just provide mobility. It lets the child ‘join in’ with the other kids.
- Providing a special-needs school with a Sunshine Coach gives its pupils access to a much wider range of activities and experiences.
- In 2018 alone, they provided 61 wheelchairs, 61 Sunshine coaches and 126 grants for specialist equipment.
- For a disadvantaged child, a day at the seaside becomes a cherished childhood memory.
So well done to Mecca Bingo Scarborough and the players who made this a reality!
