Castle Bingo in Moriston, Swansea has a bit of a reputation for creating big winners. In the local press, the bingo hall is branded the luckiest in Wales and after a recent performance, I can see why. It was just a Sunday like any other Sunday and as we all sat down to play bingo, silence fell as the management announced the next game was to be the big one – the one we all want to win.
The National Bingo Game is a networked bingo game where hundreds of clubs join forces to dish out the big cash, plus there are guaranteed prizes to be won in each game. Last night, the full-house prize was £347, but the winner took home a prize even greater than this.
Daubers at the Ready:
The caller encouraged everyone to stay quiet as the numbers are being called and proceeded to explain how to win the real money jackpots. The 50-ball bingo game has no line prize, just a full house and if you’re quick enough to win in 16 numbers, you’ll win £50,000 on top of the in-house prize.
As the numbers were being called, there were slight noises coming from a table on the upper row from me, then all of a sudden, a woman yells ‘house!’ A couple of old ladies next to me uttered “Surely she’s calling for a line, right?” in a way of convincing themselves they still had a shot at winning, but sadly for them anyway, the lucky bingo player was calling house because she had marked all 10 numbers off her ticket within 16 calls!
The ticket was confirmed to be a winning jackpot ticket and the hall broke into a fierce roar of applause. “Congratulations on your win, but we must continue” uttered the caller. During the next game, the winner had to leave the hall twice due to shock and on returning, she sat with her head in her hands musing on her win.
It’s Not the First Time:
Since opening their doors more than two decades ago in Swansea (UK), Castle Bingo have seen a record number of players win on the National Bingo Game; a total of £5.5 million has been won in this club alone. It is without doubt the busiest and best bingo club in Wales and sometime before the major renovations in 2017, another winner scooped a major win of £40,000!
The venue underwent a £1.3 million refurbishment in September of 2017, and it coincided with their 25th Anniversary. Features include an impressive hi-definition video wall, a huge selection of leading slots and casino games as well as the ability to play bingo on both tickets and tablets (e-cubs).
Speaking on the refurbishment, general manager of Castle Bingo, Mike Wiltshire said: "We are really excited, and our members are very pleased with their club’s new look. Morriston is the busiest bingo club in Wales, with Castle visitors enjoying their bingo, a full range of freshly cooked meals and brand-leading drinks all priced very competitively."
