Lucky players from the UK and Spain chose exactly the same numbers, including 10, 17, 18, 28 and 47, whereas the Lucky Star numbers were 3 and 7. National Lottery host congratulated the winner from Great Britain by saying “What a win for one lucky UK ticket holder,” adding that the UK ticket holder is the 10th biggest winner of all time. The exact sum of both jackpots amounts to £77,798,898.10 without tax.
As soon as the lottery processes both requests for payout and ticket validation, players can decide whether to go public or stay anonymous. Likewise, a pair from the UK, Colin and Christine Weir, hold the record for winning a humongous sum on Euromillions, reaching as much as £161m in 2011.
Launched in February 2004 and supported by its founding countries UK, France and Spain, Euromillions grew very quickly and became one of the most popular lottery competitions with staggering jackpot wins. Austria, Belgium, Ireland, Luxembourg, Portugal and Switzerland joined soon after but the draws are still held every Tuesday and Friday in Paris at 20:45 CET.
Fun fact: Friday’s jackpot equals Daniel Radcliffe’s (Harry Potter actor) net worth.
