Six years ago, Microgaming and HBO penned a deal which would see the launch of the first Game of Thrones slot game. Fast-forward to 2020 and the duo have made a commitment to deliver yet another mythical slot – Game of Thrones Power Stacks.
Marked for release sometime this year, the latest video slot will feature some of the major characters from the hit television series, all waiting to lead players on their quest for freedom and big rewards through the world of Westeros.
Slingshot Studios, an independent studio who have a knack with providing innovative, high-quality games exclusively for the Isle of Man-based software provider, will be putting pen to paper once again for this one.
Insider’s Guide
Make no bones about it, Game of Thrones took the world by storm. A total of eight series were made and from the very first episode to the last, we got to know each of the houses and characters within, personally.
The genre-defying TV series scooped up hundreds of award nominations and wins, including 160 primetime Emmy Award nominations with 59 wins and seven Golden Globe Award nominations with one win.
The season finale reached a phenomenal status with 19.3m viewers across all HBO platforms. Despite fans knowing there will never be another series of GOT, they can rejoice with the fact that the Westeros clan will be returning, but on a set of reels opposed to a televisions set.
“The Game of Thrones brand has garnered a devoted following among viewers, along with incredible media attention. We are excited to extend our partnership with HBO to supply a new Game of Thrones online slot that honours and builds on the brand’s immense popularity…
…In the spirit of the show, we will be working hard to deliver a quality, feature-rich slot game so that players can enjoy an authentic Game of Thrones themed gaming experience,” Jean-Luc Ferriere, Chief Commercial Officer at Microgaming.
Tease Me Please Me!
If you loved the jaw-dropping television series, you’ll love the upcoming prequel; House of the Dragon. Casey Bloys, HBO’s president of Programming has confirmed that the prequel to Game of Thrones is on track for its 2022 debut. However, they have stressed that it’s too early to confirm an actual date.
Based on the Fire & Blood book by George R.R. Martin, House of the Dragon is set some 300-years prior to the events we saw in Game of Thrones. The story is one based on one of the houses – the Targaryen family, rich in dragon lord ancestors of Daenerys.
Viewers will understand the plot somewhat, what with Tywin Lannister teasing of how the trio of Targaryen dragons unleashed their fiery war on the seven kingdoms. No doubt we will bear witness to that when the anticipated television show lands.
Balerion, Vhagar and Meraxes were the fearsome dragons which helped Daenerys’ family keep a tight grip over Westeros, however, we all know how that ended. I’ll give you a little clue; ‘the mad king.’
According to Fandom, King Aerys II Targaryen, father to Daenerys (aka mother of dragons), was the last member of the house to rule from the Iron Throne. One thing led to another and a holy war raged after Tywin, the king’s hand and friend betrayed him. Jamie, Tywin’s son, was ordered to bring his father’s head to the king, but he rebelled and daggered the king in the back. Oh ‘er!
I can’t be the only one looking forward to the upcoming slot or television series. Let me know your thoughts below.

I’ve a feeling there will be more of these prequels. How can you have one based on a single house when there are many houses? It would be stupid not to!
