Veteran’s Day also referred to as “Armistice Day” is Friday, November 11th, 2016. The history behind this day is a very interesting one. World War 1 aka “Great War” ended on June 2, 1919, after the Treaty of Versailles was signed at the Palace of Versailles. The fighting however actually ended seven months earlier when the temporary cessation between Allied nations and Germany went into effect. This took place at precisely the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month and is recognized every year on November 11th when in 1919 President Wilson proclaimed it saying:
"To us in America, the reflections of Armistice Day will be filled with solemn pride in the heroism of those who died in the country’s service and with gratitude for the victory, both because of the thing from which it has freed us and because of the opportunity it has given America to show her sympathy with peace and justice in the councils of the nations…"
