The odds of winning $1 million on the Powerball lottery are pretty outrageous. You’d never back a horse with odds of 11,688,053.52 to 1, would you? Imagine not only beating those odds to win but beating those odds to win twice – and in the same day with the same numbers!
It’s as if a miracle took place in Colorado recently, after ‘Joe B’ from Pueblo hit the headlines…
…for winning two jackpots in one day. After playing the same set of number for three decades, he finally won big. But it’s not the first time this has happened.
Last month, this same man who has been playing for 30 years decided to buy a ticket for the big draw; one bought in the morning and the other in the evening at a totally different vendor. Both tickets produced the same set of numbers: 05, 09, 27, 39, 42 – doesn’t really matter what the red ball was, as he didn’t match it. If he did, it would be a totally different story.
Five main draw numbers guarantee the ticket holder $1 million – if you match the red ball, you’ve won the huge jackpot! Despite only matching the main numbers, we think ‘Joe B’ is more than thrilled with his real money winnings. When asked by local media what his plans are for the cash, he replied “The boss (wife) has plans for it!” I bet she has!
Double Lucky
On Monday, after a month of deliberating what to do with his newfound fortune, the double lucky lottery winner collected his winnings before posing with his two cheques. Colorado Lottery gave a brief insight into how the winner won:
“Joe likes to play one play of his own numbers, and a couple more plays with Quick Picks. He bought a few Powerball plays in the morning at 7-Eleven on 926 Lake Ave, then stopped and bought a few more plays in the evening at Loaf N' Jug on 2050 Lake Ave.”
How lucky is that? Winning the lottery once is rare, winning twice and in the same day are even rarer, but it has happened before and more than the once! I can’t even win once playing bingo let alone twice on the lottery!
It certainly was a happy new year (2020) for one Delaware resident after he accidentally bought two of the same Powerball tickets for the same draw. His actions paid off with a $100K win.
In 2012, a woman from Virginia also mistakenly purchased two tickets for Powerball, both like ‘Joe B’ with the same number and again, the similarities are uncanny – she also won two $1 million prizes!

I wonder what the odds are for winning twice in the same draw? Wow, these winners certainly were lucky! I think with luck like that, they should continue to play the lottery!
