Bill and Cath Mullarkey recently discovered they had won £1,000,000 on the EuroMillions raffle and the win meant they could fulfill a lifetime dream of building their own home on the idyllic Caribbean island of St Lucia. After meeting in 1992, both working as chefs in a hotel, they married and bought a plot of land on the island, but the economy dipped, and this meant their dream of building their own home was put on hold…
…until now. Bill said: “We bought a plot of land, planning to one day build a home of our own. But by July 2017, we realized we didn’t have the funds. It was heart-breaking, but we decided to sell up. We returned to the UK feeling really down, only to win the Lottery!”
The plans have now been kick-started and the own three-story apartment is set to get underway shortly, with the ground floor reserved for apartments and the roof-top terrace will be home to a small restaurant where they will serve their own home-cooked meals.
Netted a Good Win
Martin 54, an avid angler and his wife Debbie, 48 from Nuneaton won £1million on the Lotto in September by matching the five main numbers drawn and the bonus ball. A lucky dip win the week before instantly hooked Martin and he decided to have another shot at the Lotto the week later and to his and his wife’s surprise, their numbers came up.
A purchase of a Volkswagen T-Roc has already been made, a beast of a vehicle to transport the keen fisherman’s tackle around, but his wife insists that not all the money will be sent on fishing. Martin said: “I never dreamt this would happen to us. It will make such a difference to us and our families. We’ve always dreamed of having our own little place in Lanzarote. We’re now in a position where we can actually do this, we can live our dream and go out there several times a year, perhaps even spend winters out there. And our relatives can use it too. One day we’d love to move to Lanzarote full time.”
Well-Suited and Timely Win
Ann, a wheelchair user and her husband Don Webster won £1,023,801 on the National Lottery and knew exactly where to invest the money – in a new home designed exclusively with Ann in mind. The old home wasn’t exactly well-suited to Ann’s needs, so the win came at just the right time: “We lived in a converted barn before, but regular power cuts meant the lift often didn’t work, leaving me stranded downstairs with my bed, shower, clothes and make-up upstairs” said Ann.
In 2006, a plot of land was sourced but it took a while to find one suited to the couple. Ann revealed: “We didn’t find the perfect land until three years ago and it’s taken this long for us to buy it, apply for planning permission for our own grand design and for work to begin. Our new timber frame house is due to be ready in Spring 2020 ‐ 14 years in the waiting – but it’s going to mean a whole new wonderful way of life.”
The EuroMillions for Friday, November 8th is to guarantee 25 UK millionaires! Will you be one of them? You can play at many shops or online by using a variety of banking methods. If you play online and your numbers come up, you’ll receive an email about your ticket!

Lovely to hear about what the winners plan on doing with their winnings. I wouldn’t know what to do to be honest, but I still play and hope to land a big win one day.
