International Women’s Day falls on 8th March this year and is an annual global event which celebrates the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating women’s equality and it’s been running for well over a century now.
The first International Women’s Day (IWD) was supported by more than a million people back in 1911 and thanks to collective action and shared ownership for driving gender parity, the event is hailed a success each year.
Gloria Steinem, world-renowned feminist, journalist and activist once explained "The story of women's struggle for equality belongs to no single feminist nor to any one organization but to the collective efforts of all who care about human rights."
